TRASH HERO THAILAND
‘Keeping Paradise Clean For Future Generations’
Started in September 2013 by Roman Peter from Switzerland, and supported closely by ‘Yaman’ Nirut Chochuang, Pi Oh, Bee and Darius, Trash Hero Thailand has taken Koh Lipe and the surrounding Tarutao National Park by storm. With Lipe getting ever busier each season, the trash builds up and the Islands’ waste management system struggles to keep up.
The weekly beach clean-ups take place every Monday, starting at 10am on Pattaya Beach and departing for the Butang Archipelago’s Islands. Every week is filled with success, with the long tail boats returning in the afternoon, heavily laden with thousands of kilos of waste and gaggles of satisfied Trash Heroes.
Led by a set of highly energised and in-the-know organisers, Trash Hero makes sure that everyone involved is educated to the impact that trash has on the global environment.
Trash Hero is not only confined to these weekly meets either, aim big and create long-term projects. As well as getting visitors hyped up and involved, they rally troops locally, educating the Koh Lipe community as to how to better manage their waste. They are also working to put strategies into place that will reduce the amount of waste being produced in the future.
Trash Hero Thailand is spreading the word fast, with everyone involved being so inspired to make a change, taking their experience home with them, all across the world organising their own local clean-ups.
Times are changing across the globe, with less people comfortable ignoring what happens to their plastic bottle after they chuck it. Along with projects such as The Ocean Cleanup and World Cleanup 2014, Trash Hero Thailand is at the forefront of a worldwide movement to make a change for the better, for our planet, for our environment.
Should you be coming to Koh Lipe soon, make sure to keep your Mondays’ free. Trust us, you wouldn’t want to miss a day with Trash Hero. Not only is the day itself a blast, we guarantee you will end the day feeling fulfilled, with a great sense of camaraderie and accomplishment.
