As a SSI Instructor Training Center we are the only dive centre on Koh Lipe able to teach the SSI Instructor Training Course allowing Divemaster’s to Upgrade to Instructors.
Our ITC course is taught by, Kris Scope, Ko Lipe’s only SSI Instructor trainer.
Adang Sea Divers and Kris together teach to the highest level of standards, ensuring that this course will not only give you the greatest chance of passing the SSI Instructor Exam (IE) but also giving you the best start in your new life as a SSI Instructor.
The course is run over a period of 12 days and split into 2 sections: the Assistant Instructor (AI) and the Instructor Training Course (ITC). The AI and ITC are taught with a mixture of classroom presentations, confined water skills demonstration and practice, dive theory, dive skill briefing and open water skill practice.
After completion of the ITC you will move on to the Instructor Evaluation (IE). This takes place over 2 days during which time a SSI Instructor Certifier will come to Ko Lipe and you will be tested on your knowledge of diving, training standards, classroom presentations, confined water and open water skill demonstrations.

Prerequisites for ITC
- You must have at least 100 logged dives, be be a SSI Divemaster or equivalent, and a certified diver for at least six months.
- You must have an CPR and O2 student level within the last two years.
- You must be over 18 years of age with a valid medical clearance.
- You must have Enriched Air Nitrox certification (we can run this course if you do not have it already.

About the Course
We specialise in flexible schedules and small classes. Normally we have 3-4 students per instructor course. This means you get more attention from us and we get to know you a little better!
KNOWLEDGE:
The course begins with knowledge development through downloading the MySSI app and completing the Instructor course theory chapters and pretests online. Then reviewing the courses that you will be able to teach such as Open Water Course, Stress and Rescue, Divemaster, Science of Diving & Enriched Air Nitrox.
SKILLS:
Practice over 20 scuba skills in a confined water area, off one of the many beautiful beaches on Koh Lipe! Checking your skills demonstations are at a instructor level quality. There is also professional fitness test of swims, floats, rescue & underwater swims.
ACADEMIC PRESENTATIONS:
Practice teaching and completing academic presentations covering topics that you will be teaching in the once you are an instructor including topics from Open Water, Rescue and Divemaster courses.
IN WATER PRESENTATIONS:
Practice confine water and open water in water presentation which includes briefings, skill demonstration, problem solving and debriefings.
INSTRUCTOR EVALUATION
The final instructor evaluation is what everyone worries about however if you are able to pass the Instructor Trainer course you can pass then IE. Not to worry about this part, you are just showing an SSI evaluator what you have learnt on your instructor course and that you will be a competent instructor following SSI Standards.

WHAT’S NEXT?
Once you are an SSI instructor you would have many opportunities to work at Adang Sea Divers, Ko Lipe or around Thailand. You can also use the SSI App to search for SSI Instructor jobs around the world.
You have now start a new diving ladder to progress as a Diving Instructor. Progressing from an SSI Open Water Instructor to an Instructor Trainer involves a few steps within the SSI (Scuba Schools International) system. Please see the different instructor levels below:
Open Water Instructor (OWSI):
An SSI Open Water Instructor can teach and certify students up to the Open Water Diver level. They are qualified to conduct entry-level scuba diving courses and introduce new divers to the underwater world teaching all they way up to Divemaster level.
Divemaster Instructor (DMI):
After gaining experience as an Open Water Instructor, one can advance to become a Divemaster Instructor. Having completed instructor specialties in Deep, Navigation and Night, this certification allows instructors to teach and mentor Divemaster candidates. The Divemaster Instructor rating will happen automatically once you have taught at least 25 certifications and can teach certain specialties.
Assistant Instructor Trainer (AIT):
The Assistant Instructor Trainer certification prepares instructors to assist in teaching Instructor Training Courses (ITCs). AITs help train and mentor new instructors under the supervision of an Instructor Trainer. AIT is an additional course where you join another ITC and learn how to evaluate instructor candidates.
Master Instructor (MI):
The Master Instructor certification recognizes instructors who have demonstrated a high level of experience, teaching proficiency, and commitment to scuba diving. You will automatically become a Master Instructor once you are an AIT and taught at least 150 certifications.
Instructor Trainer (IT):
The highest level in SSI’s instructional hierarchy, an Instructor Trainer is authorized to conduct Instructor Training Courses (ITCs). They certify and mentor new instructors, ensuring they meet SSI’s standards for teaching diving courses.

Open Water Instructor (OWI) – Teaches entry-level scuba diving courses.
Divemaster Instructor (DMI) – Trains Divemasters and assists with dive operations.
Assistant Instructor Trainer (AIT) – Prepares to assist in training new instructors on ITC courses.
