We offer several modules of under water photography. You may decide to do only one or several of these modules, depending on your points of interest and the time you intend to stay on Koh Lipe.
During each of these modules you will receive personalized photographic instruction. The modules are tailored to your needs and adapted to your knowledge and skills. Therefore you can learn at your own pace, with your own photo equipment or with our rental camera.

In order to take good photos you will need perfect buoyancy control. We therefore recommend all photographers to do the Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure dive or Speciality course before starting under water photography.

Module 1 :	How to obtain beautiful images with a compact digital camera.
Module 2 :	Macro photography with a compact digital camera.
Module 3 :	External strobe(s).
Module 4 :	SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings.
Module 5 :	SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings, MACRO speciality.
Module 6 :	SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings, WIDE ANGLE speciality.
Module 7 :	Digital photo editing in Photoshop for beginners.
Module 8 :	Advanced digital photo editing in Photoshop.
Module 9 :	Digital editing of RAW images.

Photo camera:
- It is possible to rent a Canon IXUS 110S compact digital camera with under water housing at our divecentre. This camera will allow you to take very nice photos under water. Camera rental is not included in the course price.

- If you own your own digital camera with an under water housing you can use it during the course.
When booking your course it will be usefull if you mention the camera brand and model, what kind of housing you're using as well as which strobe(s) you use. This will help us prepare your course so that we can give you as much information and tips as possible. It will also be handy if you bring your camera's user manual along.

- If you already own a digital camera and are looking to buy an Ikelite housing for your camera, we can order your housing for you at a very good price. We will also give you the necessary information to start using your housing and for its maintenance. Take a look at the manufacterer's website to see whether a housing exists for your type of camera and send us an email with the make and model of your camera as well as the article number for the Ikelite housing of your choice. We will reply with the price of the housing and dilivery delay. Depending on stock it may take 2 to 8 weeks for your order to arrive so it is a good idea to order well in advance.
If you are interested in any other Ikelite articles such as strobes, strobe arms, or a new port for your housing we can also order those for you at a good price if you send us an email with the article number of your choice.

If you prefer to order Inon strobes or 10-bar arms, or an optical cable that is also possible.

 

Module 1 : How to obtain beautiful images with a compact digital camera:

This private one day course is devided in two seperate parts.

During part 1, on land and in shallow water, you will learn to:
- take care of your camera housing, how to store it, clean it and how to prepare it for diving.
- adjust exposure, white balance and the sensitivity of your photos in order to obtain the best results under water.
- use the different camera settings for macro and wide-angle photography.
- choose a focus point before taking your photo.

During part 2, when you dive with your private instructor you will learn to:
- find interesting subjects for under water photography.
- apply all the adjustments and settings you learned during part 1 of the course.
- choose your position under water in order to obtain a nice composition without damaging aquatic life.
- use your camera's internal flash in the best possible way.

At the end of the course we will take the time to look at your photos in order to give you advice on how to improve your photography.
We will also burn your photos onto a CD to take home with you.
If you're interested in learning how to improve your photos in Photoshop, we strongly recommend to also follow module 7.

Module 2 : Macro photography with a compact digital camera:

Private one day course, 2 dives.
If you already followed module 1 and want to learn more, or if you already followed another under water photography course for beginners, this module is for you.

During these two dives you will learn to:
- FInd the tiny creatures which hide on a coral reef and to take beautiful colourful images of them.
- to position yourself under water in a way which allows you to obtain an interesting composition without damaging aquatic life.
- use your camera's internal flash in the best possible way.
- adjust your camera settings for macro photography.

Between dives we will take the time to have a look at your photos and to give you advice on how to improve your photos during your second dive.
We will also burn your photos onto a CD to take home with you.
If you're interested in learning how to improve your photos in Photoshop, we strongly recommend to also follow module 7.

Module 3 : External strobe(s):

Private half day course, 1 dive.
You have your own camera equipment?
You want to learn how to better use your external strobe?
Then this course is for you!
We will explain how to maintain your strobes and together we'll have a look which settings best suit your camera. We will also teach you how to use the manual settings on your strobe.
After that we'll go to one of our favourite divesite to practice.

It will be our pleasure to burn your photos on a CD.
If you're interested in learning how to edit your photos in Photoshop, we strongly recommend to also follow module 7.
If you do not yet own an external strobe but are thinking of buying one you may contact us for advice. It will be our pleasure to assist you in your choice and we can even order your strobe for you.
Price of this module: 4.000 baht (including diving equipment and your photo CD)

Module 4 : SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings.

Private two day course, 4 dives.
You own all necessary photo equipment?
Meaning you own a SLR or compact camera with manual settings for aperture and shutterspeed? And you have at least one external strobe?
Then sign up for this module!

This course is for photographers who already have a basic knowledge of under water photography.
We teach you how to take the best possible photos with your equipment. Together we will check out the exposure settings of your camera as well as techniques for the best depth of field and composition. We will also talk about your strobe settings and how to get the best lighting under all circumstances. Together with your teacher you will do 4 dives to practice each of these settings and after each dive we will study your images in order to give you advice so that on the following dive you will take even better photos.

Ofcourse we will be delighted to burn your wonderful photos onto a CD.
We strongly recommend to also follow module 7 to digitally process your photos in order to achieve the best possible result.
Price of this module: 12.000 baht (including diving equipment and your photo CD)

Module 5 :
SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings, macro speciality.

One day private course, 2 dives.
Just like us you're a fan of all the tiny critters inhabiting the coral reef? You own all necessary photo equipment?
Meaning you own a SLR or compact camera with manual settings for aperture and shutterspeed? And you have at least one external strobe?
Then this module is especially designed for you!

We will teach you how to maximize your photo equipment and take even better macro shots.
During these two dives we will be looking for nudibranches, crabs, shrimps, seahorses, pipefish and many other critters. We will teach you how to best position yourself to take a beautifully composed photo without damaging aquatic life.
Together we will practice exposure settings and techniques to obtain the best depth of field and composition of your images.
We will also discuss your strobe settings and how to get the best lighting under all circumstances.
We will do two dives together to practice these techniques and in between dives we will have a look at your photos so that we can give you advice on how to improve your technique during your second dive in order to achieve even better reults.

Ofcourse we will be delighted to burn your wonderful photos onto a CD.
We strongly recommend to also follow module 7 to digitally process your photos in order to achieve the best possible result.

Module 6 :
SLR or compact camera with manual exposure settings, wide angle speciality.

One day private course, 2 dives.
You have a wide angle lens?
You would like to take photos of under water landscapes, divers and large schools of fish?
Then this module is for you!

We will teach you how to maximize your photo equipment and take even better wide angle shots.
During these two dives we wiil visit our most beautifull divesites, covered in colourful soft corals and amazing gorgonians.
Together we will practice exposure settings and techniques to obtain the best depth of field and composition of your images specifically for wide angle photography.
We will also discuss your strobe settings and how to get the best lighting under all circumstances.
We will do two dives together to practice these techniques and in between dives we will have a look at your photos so that we can give you advice on how to improve your technique during your second dive in order to achieve even better reults.

Ofcourse we will be delighted to burn your wonderful photos onto a CD.

Module 7 : Digital photo editing in Photoshop for beginners.

Half day private course.
In order to obtain the best possible images we will edit your beautiful digital photos together with you in Photoshop. During this 3 hour module you will learn how to process your images by adjusting levels, exposure, brightness and contrast and how to remove particles and other unwanted details in your photos.
Price of this module: 3.000 baht.

Module 8 : Advanced digital photo editing in Photoshop.

Half day private course.
For an even better end result we will work together with you to process your wonderfull digital images in Photohop. During this 3 hour module you will learn how to further edit your images, up to the smallest detail. You learn to work with layers and we will teach you how to automate certain actions.
Price of this module: 3.000 baht.
 

Module 9 : Digital editing of RAW images.

Half day private course.
Your camera takes RAW pictures but you don't know how to use them? No problem, we are here to help you. We will show you how to digitally process your RAW photos in order to achieve the best possible result.
Price of this module: 3.000 baht.
