Useful Information

Map of LipeKoh Lipe is a small island, it is possible to cross the island from one end to another on foot, distances are short. Come to see us to organize your scuba diving or snorkling trip, to learn diving with a PADI Open Water Diver course, to continue your adventure with any other PADI or SDI diving course, or to spend the night in our environmentally friendly accommodation. Our dive resort is located on Sunrise Beach, just behind the excellent Sunrise restaurant.

Koh Lipe offers numerous activities.  Diving is of course the one we recommend :-)  Nowhere else will you see soft corals like the ones around Koh Lipe.
At our dive centre you can rent mask, snorkel and fins to go snorkeling from one of the many beaches on the island or to participate in a snorkeling tour by Longtail (traditional thai boat).
It is also possible to go kayaking or trekking and for the less dynamic: relax on the heavenly beaches.

A wide variety of accommodation is available on the island, as well as a multitude of small shops. There is a pharmacy, a post office but no ATM. Therefore it is a good idea to withdraw sufficient cash on the mainland, before coming to the island. Our office ADANG SEA TOUR at Pak Bara has an ATM. You will be able to pay the big resorts with credit card but not in shops and restaurants. It's possible to receive cash on credit card in some resorts, but only at high interest rates. (3 - 8%)

There are several internet cafés on the island. However their rates are higher than on the mainland (3 baht per minute) and the connection is often extremely slow, sometimes even impossible. We recommend that you notify your friends and family before going to the island so that they do not worry if you take longer than usual to reply to their messages :-)

You will find a large number of small restaurants on Koh Lipe. They serve excellent thai food as well as european dishes. Many restaurants propose grilled fish and crustaceans but, as a diver, you should know that even though we are inside a national marine park, the locals continue fishing on the reefs around the island and then sell these fish to tourists.
If you care for the preservation of the reefs and their inhabitants, ask the restaurant whether the fish they serve comes from fish farms on the mainland or whether they have been caught around Koh Lipe.
Only you can make a difference. If tourists refuse to eat fish caught inside the National Marine Park, restaurants will increasingly offer fish from farms instead, so that divers and snorkelers can continue to appreciate the fish in their natural environment rather than on a plate!

What to bring ?
A swimsuit, mosquito repellent, sunglasses and sun screen. (It is highly recommended smear on a thick layer before taking the speedboat.) Don't forget your logbook and  your diving certificate as well as a passport photo if you want to do a diving course.

Climate
Dry season lasts from November until April, it is the best time to visit Koh Lipe.
The rainy season lasts from May until October. But even then it does not rain every day and the thunderstorms never last long.
The offices of the national park and their outlets on Adang island and Tarutao are closed during this time but some restaurants and resorts on Lipe remain open.
This is a more quiet time and the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed.
During the dry season the island comes alive and all restaurants, resorts and shops are open.
Our high season is from December to February. To avoid bad surprises, we highly recommend that you make an advanced booking for your diving and accommodation if you want to come during this time.

Temperatures
The hottest months are from January to May. Temperatures range from 30 to 38°C during the day and from 25 to 30°C during night time.
From June to September temperatures lessen: from 28 to 35°C during the day and from 22 to 25°C during night time.
The «coldest» months are from October until December: from 25 to 30°C during the day and from 20 to 25°C during night time.
The water temperature remains quite stable and warm all year round, varying between 28 and 30°C.
